LumenARRT! has teamed up with Mainers for Clean Elections, the Portland Public Library and the Portland Area League of Women Voters for “Projecting the Vote” in Monument Square during the First Friday Art Walk on November 1st from approximately 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Video projections of suffragette footage will light up the monument itself in honor of the centennial of women receiving the right to vote. Meanwhile, a second, animated projection on the façade of the Portland Public Library will highlight what voters can do to expand voting rights in Maine.
The projection event will have several fun elements like “Gerry Mander,” a creature that gobbles up voting districts, a photo booth to get your picture taken with a suffragist (sashes, hats and signs supplied!) and live music from an international group of players to accompany the voter extravaganza. The event will also be informational where voters can learn more about modern efforts to expand voting to all.
