Songs of Suffrage
Women In Harmony, a community of women who sing for social justice, created a concert celebrating the Right to Vote. The packed audience stood and cheered as the chorus marched in, all in white, singing March of the Women by Ethyl Smith. The program included other Suffrage era songs such as The League of Women Voters by Mrs. DP Owens, and Suffrage Song by Eleanor Smith, as well as contemporary accounts of women of the time such as Emma and May by Linda Allen, Nana was a Suffragette by Jules Gibb, and Never Sit Down by Gwyneth Walker. The audience was again on its feet, and singing, for the finale, a stirring rendition of the spiritual We Shall Overcome.
